Frequently Asked Questions
Web Design and Development That Holds Up After Launch
Most people weighing up a website project want to know the same handful of things: what a build actually involves, which platform is right for what they are doing, what it will cost, and whether the site will still be fast and maintainable a year from now. Here is how we approach the work and what you can expect at each stage.
What a web design and development project actually involves
A website project is more than a set of pages that look right in a design tool. It is the structure underneath, the way content is organised, how the site is hosted and how easily you can update it once we hand it over. We treat all of that as part of the job, not an afterthought.
A typical build moves through discovery, design, development, testing and launch. Discovery is where we work out what the site is for and what success looks like, so the pages we design are answering a real question rather than filling space. Development turns that into a working site, and testing is where we make sure it holds up before anyone else sees it.
The aim throughout is a site you can run yourself day to day, that does not fall over the first time your traffic climbs or your content grows.
Choosing the right platform for the job
There is no single best platform, only the right one for what you are building. For content-led sites where you need to publish and edit freely, WordPress is usually the sensible choice, and it covers the large majority of marketing sites well. For anything with custom logic, user accounts or data at its core, Laravel gives us a solid, secure foundation to build on. Where the front end needs to be fast and app-like, a headless build separates the site people see from the system that manages the content.
If your project is closer to a product than a brochure, with logins, dashboards or member areas, that often points towards portal and platform development rather than a standard site.
Where WordPress is the right answer, our WordPress development agency page sets out how those builds are put together, from custom themes through to integrations and support.
We will recommend a platform based on what you actually need, not what we feel like building. If a simpler option does the job, we will say so.
Design that works, not just design that looks good
A good-looking site that nobody can navigate is a failure, however polished it is. We design around what visitors are trying to do, so the important actions are obvious and the path to them is short. That means clear structure, readable typography and a layout that makes sense before anyone has to think about it.
Everything is designed responsively from the start, because most of your visitors are on a phone and a design that only works on a large screen is only half finished. We test real layouts on real screen sizes rather than assuming they will scale.
Accessibility is part of this too. Sensible contrast, proper headings and keyboard-friendly navigation make the site usable for more people and tend to make it better for everyone.
Not sure which platform fits your project?
Tell us what the site needs to do and who it is for, and we will tell you plainly whether WordPress, Laravel or a headless build is the right call. There is no charge for a straight answer.
Building for performance and speed
Speed is not a nice-to-have. A slow site loses visitors before they see anything, and search engines factor loading times into where you rank. We build with performance in mind from the first line of code rather than trying to bolt it on at the end.
That covers the things that quietly slow sites down: oversized images, bloated plugins, render-blocking scripts and hosting that cannot keep up. We keep the stack lean and we measure, so the numbers reflect what real visitors experience rather than a lab score.
If you are coming to us with an existing site that has become sluggish, that is a specific job in its own right, and our WordPress speed optimisation work is usually where that starts.
What a website costs and why estimates vary
The honest answer is that it depends on scope, and anyone who quotes a firm price before understanding the project is guessing. A straightforward brochure site is a very different piece of work from a bespoke application with user accounts and integrations, and the price reflects that gap.
What we can promise is a fixed quote once we understand what you need, with a clear breakdown of what is included, so you are not surprised by the final invoice. We would rather spend time scoping properly up front than deliver a cheap number that grows halfway through.
If your site needs to talk to other systems, a CRM, an accounting platform or a booking tool, that shapes the cost as well, and our API integrations work often runs alongside a build for exactly that reason.
Ownership, handover and keeping the site running
Everything we build is yours. You keep full ownership of the code, the design and the content, with no licensing catch and nothing held hostage on our servers. We work in-house rather than outsourcing your project on, so the people who build it are the people you deal with.
At handover you get a site you can actually run, along with documentation for anything that needs it, so you are not dependent on us for routine changes. If you would rather we handled updates, security and small tweaks on an ongoing basis, our WordPress support retainers cover that without you having to think about it.
A website is not finished at launch, it just starts being used. We build with that in mind, so the site can grow with you instead of needing to be rebuilt in a couple of years.
